Going on vacation is exciting, right? Planning where to go, making all the reservations, and purchasing your tickets all build up the anticipation and excitemant of getting ready for your trip. But the thing I hate most about going on vacation is leaving my fur baby- Letterman.
It is Just not Fair
Pets are so much a part of our family it just does not seem right not to take them with us. If I had my way I would take him with me everywhere, however certain travel is not always in his best interest.
Maybe Someday
We hope to one day get a camper and that will allow us to take Letterman with us on our travels. That way when we are out and about he can be comfortable in a familiar environment.
Best Option for Leaving Your Pet
Our best choice is to have him stay with family or a friend that you trust. This is very important because you will not be able to enjoy yourself if you feel uncomfortable with who your dog is staying with. If they have a dog that your dog knows and plays well with this is a BIG plus. Your dog will feel loved and enjoy the company of familiar people and another dog. Having another dog to play with while you are away, allows him to be entertained while you are enjoying your vacation.
These are Letterman’s friends who he has enjoyed visiting with while we are on vacation. He looks pretty happy so that makes me feel a little better about leaving him.
Finding Someone To Watch Your Dog
- Start with a family member. They probably know your dog and your dog knows them.
- Ask a friend to come stay at your home so your dog stays in his familiar environment.
- I met a friend in the neighborhood and we walk our dogs together. The dogs have become such good friends. I have been a dog sitter for her on several occasions.
Leaving your dog is very difficult and the thing I hate most about going on vacation. But, finding a trusted person to watch them makes all the difference.
When we are dog sitting we always text pictures, of the dogs together having a good time, back to their people. This way they can see their dog is having a good time and can hopefully relax and have a good time also.
Anybody else hate to leave their fur baby when they go on vacation?

Aww. We have a fur baby too, a German Shepherd. We do have a trusted friend that comes and takes her out, walks, her, and makes sure she has food/water 3 times a day. We’re blessed in that way. Your fur baby is so cute!
